My role at FaithWestwood
I am the interim Director of Local Missions, Faithworks Pantry, and BLESS Friends at the church. In my role, I assist the Local Missions team in fulfilling their four main objectives of serving in “Outside the Walls”, Oaks Park connection, Iglesia Comunitaria, and connecting with Central Middle School in various projects. For the pantry, I assist the team and volunteers with the twice monthly food distribution, Thanksgiving Bag Giveaway, and maintenance of the Faithworks Pantry. For BLESS Friends, I am part of the leadership team that administers aid to our neighbors and hosts occasional BLESS Friends events.
My background in faith
I came to know Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Savior as a 12-year-old attending a Christian concert in my hometown of York, Nebraska. At that time, God gave me a vision that someday I would be a pastor of a local church. This vision came true 23 years later when I was appointed as the senior pastor of a small three point charge in Nebraska. Eight years later, I was moved to a medium size church where I served as the pastor for 17 years. At the conclusion of a 4.5 million dollar new church expansion project, I took early retirement.
Why I love our church
Being new at Faith Westwood gives me a different perspective than most people here. I love the fact that the congregation has accepted me thus far and has allowed me to acclimate to the various activities and events of the church. I am anxious to add to the life of the church and love the persons here as a brother and sister in Christ.
A bit about me
After graduating from Kearney State College in 1979 with a degree in Theater and Speech Education, I began a 13 year teaching career in high school teaching Speech and English. I quit teaching at the age of 35 to pursue God’s mission for me in ministry. I have a master’s degree in communication as well as a master’s degree in divinity. I currently teach part time at three local colleges in the areas of communications and World Religions. Connie and I have been married for over 43 years and we have two grown sons, Matt and Ben, who live within an hour drive of us. We also enjoy our three miniature schnauzers and cheering on the Huskers.
